SCARS 💯+ Club!
SCARS 💯+ club is about the beautiful cats and dogs have waited in SCARS care for over 100 days now.
Puppies and kittens tend to be adopted quickly, but some of the older cats and dogs can end up bunking down for quite a while. To bring attention to animals that have been at the refuge for longer than 100 days, we created the SCARS 100 Club.
People hate the thought of animals being here at SCARS for 100 days.
Do you see anything wrong with these furkids? We don’t. So why they can’t find homes we don’t know...
So if you are looking at adopting a cat or dog please consider asking to meet these long term tenants of SCARS. They will be so excited to get homes!
💯+ Club animals currently needing a Home!
* Blossom 100+
Female Domestic Short Hair Adult Medium
Name: * Blossom 100+Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 4 years 4 months.
Sex: Female
Weight: 4.6 kg
AdoptionFee: $125
Summary: Meet Blossom, a beautiful girl looking for a special home. You see Blossom came to the Refuge from a loving home and when she first arrived she was, as expected, not happy to be here... Our wonderful volunteers spent a lot of time with Blossom and learned she is a very smart girl who has a lot of love to give once she trusts you. We decided to send Blossom out to a foster home to learn some more about her. This is what our wonderful foster carer shared with us:
‘This beautiful girl with the stunning green eyes loves to have her human all to herself. She would prefer to be the only cat in the house and no dogs or children.
Blossom loves her balls and wand toys. She is very intelligent and needs constant stimulation. She would be best suited to a catio where she can watch all the activity in the garden. She has loads of energy and gets bored easily. Blossom doesn’t like to be bored and loves doing food puzzles. She can work out the easy ones far too quickly and loves a good challenge.
Once she learns to trust you, she will show you her smoochy side and her beautiful purr. She would love someone to be home (or work from home) because she enjoys lap time and being close to her human.
You will initially need to go slow with her, because it will take time before she will let her guard down and show you her gentle side.’
* Holly 100 + club

Name: * Holly 100 + clubBreed: Husky/Bull Arab
Age: 4 years 4 months.
Sex: Female
Weight: 31 kg
AdoptionFee: $199
Summary: Holly is a part of our Forgotten Friends Initiative.
Azura Building Group and SCARS are partnering to support six wonderful dogs who have faced challenges and are now ready for a fresh start.
To help them on their journey, we’re giving:
Adoption Fee – Covered
Parasite Protection for 6 months
Food Supply for 6 months from Savourlife
Post Adoption Training Support Pack.
Holly is a shelter favorite, she is sweet affectionate, and full of character!
Holly was surrendered from a family home environment, she was raised with kids and enjoys their company.
Holly grew up with another dog but lacks generalized social skills when seeing unfamiliar dogs in the community. Holly can walk past calm and relaxed dogs from across the road and is happy to ignore them but is frustrated easily when the passing dog is excitable. We believe Holly would be best suited to be the only animal in the home. Holly and her new adopters will be supported with a training package to help her be a model member of your community making walks a pleasant experience for everyone. Holly's new adopters must be committed to the training process, be willing to attend one-on-one sessions with a trainer, and have time to do the necessary homework and practice. Potentially looking at 30mins per day practice and a private 1 hr session fortnightly.
Holly can be independent and spend time unsupervised in a yard when home alone however we still recommend 6ft secure fencing she can't see through if you have neighbouring dogs. Holly is calm and relaxed at home and very easy to live with. She is house-trained and will signal at the door if she needs to go out to the toilet. She sleeps through the night on her bed and didn't bother her foster carers. Holly does like to chew her toys but is not destructive of human items she is a very clever girl who likes learning and we are sure you and her will enjoy the training journey.
If you are interested in meeting Holly and are willing to commit to the training journey with her, your efforts will be repaid in love and doggie kisses one million times over!
Please visit our website and submit a dog adoption inquiry form and our Animal Behaviour Trainer Will be in touch to organise a meet and greet.

Hopper came to SCARS through no fault of his own. He has been so stoic and patient, enjoying outings and playtime with our volunteers. He loves car rides and sees the outside world with joyous, inquisitive delight. Toys and fuss are the way to Hopper’s heart - brace yourself for tug-of-war and ball games. We are looking for a quiet home, free from other dogs, cats or pocket pets. Hopper is house-trained and enjoys lounging on the sofa with his fav soft toy. Hopper is very loyal and wants to be close to his people. You'll need secure 6ft fencing to keep him safely at home. As Hopper has spent such a long time at the refuge, he will need a soft slow approach to re-teaching independence. Hopper would benefit if his new owners were retired, worked part-time or from home to help him adjust to being home alone and separated from his new family.
Hopper can be strong on lead when he sees something exciting, so his new owners need to be physically fit and ready to undergo a training program to ensure the continued success of the adoption.
Hopper lacks confidence around small children, so he will need to go to a home without any children under 16 years.
If you would like to know more about Hopper please visit our website and fill in an adoption enquiry and our Animal Behaviour Trainer will call you to make an appointment.

Narla is a long-term girl in the refuge. Narla does not trust easily and is very selective when meeting and building relationships with new people. Narla has shown those whom she trusts much love and affection and is very playful with them. Narla's new family would ideally be an active older couple who will put in time and effort into training and giving her guidance in the home. Narla suits a home that is quiet and that doesn't have to many guests or family members coming and going. Narla is dog-selective but needs to be the only dog in the home and have no visiting dogs. Narla is not a dog who would enjoy going to highly populated environments but enjoys a quiet bush walk and a splash in the water instead. Narla travels well in the car but is suspicious and will bark if people approach. Narla loves her toys and to be chilling out lazing around. Narla needs to find a special home with people who understand her needs and who are willing to take it slow with building a relationship.

Rufus
Male Neapolitan Mastiff Adult Medium
Name: RufusBreed: Neapolitan Mastiff
Age: 4 years 9 months.
Sex: Male
Weight: 54 kg
AdoptionFee: $350
Summary: **Currently in Foster - Please call to make an appointment 07 5494 5275***
Giant goof ball Rufus is a lovely boy. He is a beautiful strong boy and needs an owner who is physically fit and experienced with giant breeds. Rufus has plenty of pep in his step but given his size doesn't require long walks multiple times per day. In the hotter months he would benefit from access to aircon and or the ability to have a dip when he needs to help keep him cool. Given his size he is better suited to living with kids over 10 yrs who are confident around dogs. Rufus would make a great addition to the right family, who understands the needs of giant breeds.
Some words from his foster carer -
He sits, drops, stays and comes on command (for off leash work, it has only been done in the back yard).
He walks better than any dog I know, heals really well.
He sits and shakes when being fed.
He is very gentle with kids.
If he is in the mood he loves fetch.
He loves tug of war, although we don't play it as we have little kids and discourage rough play.
He is very food driven.
He doesn't bark even with dogs on the other side of the fence.
He is good with people.
He is great off lead with dogs in the backyard, but have not let him off the lead in public.
He is a lazy dog and can sleep most the day, but really is drawn to having you in sight. Will follow you and then lie down wherever you are.
We have him as an outside dog, however, he would really flourish as an inside/ outside dog and based on his behaviour of wanting to be around us, his past owners probably had him this way.
Sadie
Female Rhodesian Ridgeback/Kelpie Young Adult Medium
Name: SadieBreed: Rhodesian Ridgeback/Kelpie
Age: 1 year 4 months.
Sex: Female
Weight: 22.3 kg
AdoptionFee: $350
Summary: Sadie is a nice young girl. She loves her walks and is responsive to her handler. She enjoys a good romp and a game of tug. Sadie grew up around kids and is clean in her kennel. Sadie can escape 6ft fencing when left home alone, unfortunately, has also been stressed enough when home alone to break out of the home through fly screens. SCARS will support Sadie's new owners with training to help her be the most confident version of herself as she settles into her new home. Sadie needs a family who is home more often than not and who can commit to the long haul of her training. Sadie has separation anxiety and currently lacks the skills to be calm and relaxed when left home alone. We don't want Sadie to fail again once adopted. Sadie will be best as the only dog in the home, Sadie lacks confidence around dogs and would prefer to avoid them. Despite Sadie's challenges with separation, she really is a very loving girl and she will make a wonderful addition to your family. If you believe you can give Sadie all the support she needs, please call us to meet with our trainer and discuss her further. Serious adopters only.

Summary: **Bonded with Thor**
Shadow is one of a group of cats who have come to us from a multi-cat household. She is a shy girl but has already come a long way. She is bonded with Thor who is the more shyer of the pair.
While this group of cats was loved and cared for, there were just too many cats and not enough love to go around. As a result, these cats have grown up relying on each other for company and are not too interested in humans. While some of these cats enjoy a gentle pat, most simply want to be left in peace to do their own thing. They are calm, placid, indoor cats and are easy to care for - they are house trained and love their tucker.
We are looking to rehome these cats in PAIRS so they can find confidence with each other in their new surroundings. Their new homes should be in quiet households, where they can settle into a routine with familiar people. No other pets or young children please as they may not respect their boundaries. A catio where they can sun themselves and do a bit of bird watching would be fabulous.
If you think you can help us rehome these beautiful cats, please come out to meet them.

Smudge and her Sista are part of a group of cats who have come to us from a multi-cat household.

Stone 100+
Male Great Dane/Mastiff Young Adult Large
Name: Stone 100+Breed: Great Dane/Mastiff
Age: 1 year 9 months.
Sex: Male
Weight: 35 kg
AdoptionFee: $350
Summary: ***Currently in Foster care. Please call to make an appointment on 07 5494 5275 ***
Stone was surrendered to the local pound as his owner had become homeless.
Stone is lacking in confidence and has likely had little early socialization. He is slow to approach new people and build relationships but he is learning to trust and slowly building new relationships with us here at the refuge. Stone is quiet and clean in his kennel. He does enjoy playing tug once he trusts you. Stone has been very brave and is slowly learning about the different areas of the refuge.
Stone is seeking a quiet home that can provide consistency and stability. Stone's new family should have experience with nervous dogs and be understanding about taking things slowly. Stone could learn to live with older teenage children who are relaxed and prepared to have some patience while building their new relationships. Stone lacks experience with dog on dog interactions so would be better suited as an only dog. Stone's new owner must be willing to undergo training with him and SCARS will assist with his training needs.
We think Stone is a lovely young dog and he has so much potential. If you can provide a calm and stable home home for Stone you and he might be a perfect fit.
