Cat and Dog Desexing Programs

More Dog and Cat desexing vouchers available

We are pleased to announce that we have received another round of grant funding the Sunshine Coast Council to continue our discounted Dog Desexing vouchers. We also have Cat Desexing vouchers but there are now limited available.

Cat desexing vouchers are now $49 and dog desexing vouchers are $150.

This program was set up to help people who need to desex their pets but who are experiencing genuine financial hardship. The aim of our program is to decrease the number of unwanted litters in the Sunshine Coast community with most of these unwanted kittens and puppies ending up in our care.

If you are a resident of the Sunshine Coast Council and are experiencing genuine financial hardship and require assistance with desexing your cat or dog you may be eligible to purchase a discounted desexing voucher through SCARS. You must hold a health care card, pension card or tertiary student card or can otherwise demonstrate financial hardship, in order to access a voucher.  There is a limit of 2 cat vouchers and 1 dog voucher per household, per 12-month period.

Genuine financial hardship - If you have purchased a pure bred or specialty breed puppy or kitten from a breeder for thousands of dollars, it is unlikely that you would be considered to have ‘genuine financial hardship’.  We understand that times are challenging and desexing your pet can be expensive. However, this program has been set up for those who would not otherwise have the means to desex their pet. We want to ensure the program helps those most in need in our community with applications being assessed on an individual basis.  Thank you for your understanding.

This program is NOT open to people who derive income from the sale of animals.

We are open Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm at 28 Sippy Creek Road, Tanawha (closed public holidays and substituted holidays).

Vets across the Coast have generously agreed to participate in this campaign. The vouchers represent a significant discount on the procedure cost for desexing which is extremely generous. Once you have purchased your voucher, please assist the vets as much as possible by contacting them early, working within their schedule, advising them that you are a voucher holder, and presenting your cat or dog for the procedure in a healthy condition. Each vet will have a slightly different pre-operation routine, so please contact them and they will advise you of their requirements. In some circumstances there may be additional costs for more complicated procedures, extra services or ongoing pain relief – this will need to be discussed with the vet.

While booked in for the operation, it may be advantageous for you to discuss microchipping, worming and vaccinations. Your support of these vets with the ongoing health and care of your pet will also help acknowledge their contribution.
